Man, it’s been a while.
A lot has changed in the three years since my last blog post. I got divorced. I earned a promotion at work. I’ve updated my golf bag six or seven times. Hell TaylorMade has moved to a two-year product launch cycle.
If you follow me on social media, you know I haven’t completely disappeared. I’ve been active on TikTok, Instagram, and, most importantly, YouTube. And honestly, YouTube is the biggest reason this blog went quiet.
A few years ago, I decided to try sharing my golf equipment reviews and opinions through video instead of writing them down. At the time, it seemed like the natural next step. After all, I spend my day job talking to people about products, so being on camera wasn’t intimidating. Public speaking has never been a problem for me.
What I quickly learned, however, is that creating good YouTube content is much harder than it looks.
Like a lot of people, I thought making videos was as simple as setting up a camera and talking. It’s so much more than that. Planning, filming, editing, graphics, B-roll, thumbnails, and everything in between take a tremendous amount of time and effort.
The biggest challenge for me wasn’t even the technical side of things. It was remembering to film in the first place.
When I’m on the golf course, I’m focused on golf. I’m thinking about my next shot, not whether I got the perfect camera angle. When I’m in a simulator working on my swing or testing equipment, I’m focused on improving, not creating content. More often than not, I’d finish a session and realize I forgot to record half of what I wanted to talk about. And don’t even get me started on remembering to shoot B-roll.
The other issue? I’m just not a very good video editor.
and that’s not me being hard on myself, it’s simply the truth. I don’t have the patience for it, and while I could learn more advanced editing techniques, motion graphics, and visual effects, I don’t really want to.
What I want to do is talk about golf equipment.
I want to help golfers make smarter buying decisions. I want to help people find better deals on golf clubs. I want to answer questions, clear up confusion, and provide honest golf equipment reviews based on real experience.
The reality is that I can’t do those things consistently when I’m spending weeks editing a single video.
Writing lets me focus on what I enjoy most: sharing information, testing gear, and helping golfers get the most out of their equipment.
That’s why I’m back.
You’ll still find me on TikTok, where I’ve had some success, as well as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter (it’ll never be X to me), and the occasional post on Threads or Bluesky. Social media isn’t going anywhere.
But moving forward, this blog is going to be home base once again.
I’ve got plenty of golf equipment reviews, golf club buying guides, industry insights, and equipment testing content planned. There are some exciting projects in the works, and I’m looking forward to sharing them with you.
If you’ve been around since the beginning, thanks for sticking around. If you’re new here, welcome aboard.
Either way, I’m glad you’re here.
Stay tuned. We’ve got a lot of golf gear to talk about.
