Wilson Golf Staff Model R

I love me some raw golf clubs. I love how they look and how they feel. Wilson has released a few raw irons and wedges. They have taken this to the next level and released a “raw” golf ball. If youre like me you are wondering wait! Didnt Wilson release a golf ball a while ago? Yes they did! I wrote about it here!

What the heck is a raw golf ball?

I want you to imagine your painting something that has little holes in it like lets say… a golf ball. For shits and giggles lets call those holes dimples. When a golf ball is done it is painted and those holes can sometimes hold more paint than other parts of the golf ball. Since dimples are the key to aerodynamics of a golf ball having some dimples with more paint can obviously create some MAJOR problems. How did Wilson combat these issues? They just removed paint. They didnt paint the golf ball. They put on the urethane then polished it and sent it out.

What does it mean?

It means a golf ball that is going to spin a little more (Not always good). It will also launch lower as well. Another aspect of this is the fact the ball is going to look used faster. You can expect more grass stains more dulling. Does this mean the ball is no good? Nope. It can still be used just be aware it won’t be as “pretty”

Final Thoughts

If there wa smore of a tech story to it I would be really impressed. I think it would be interesting to try it. Im a fan of trying different golf balls but this feels like such a reach from Wilson. Its always hard for me to preach “Technology” when you are just not doing an extra step. I love raw club but not because of their performance. I’m not someone who thinks they are “better” performance wise.
