Taylormade Stealth Driver

IF you follow me you may have seen the story of this driver. The photos of this driver leaked out and i was one of the first outlets to post it on social media. I got a couple of nasty-grams from Taylormade. I agreed to take it down for access to the information on the driver when other outlets got it. They told me to email someone and I did. After a week of being ignored I decided to go with my original story and repost the pictures. So with that being said lets check out the 2022 Taylormade Stealth

Carbon Fiber Face

This is a super interesting choice and really ground breaking if it works. People are claiming massive ball speed gains. We do hear that every year but its rare that we see something this revolutionary. If it is half as good as some are claiming its going to be very good. Now what does the carbon face do for the design? Well it makes the front of the face very light compared to the rest of the club. That will help pull the weight back. That will increase MOI and forgiveness. The mesh design on the front is interesting as well. One of the concerns with the carbon fiber face will be durability. Is that mesh there for a design astehetic or is it built in there to help support the face? Should be interesting to see how long these faces last.

I fi put my conspiracy theory hat on I think the design choice could be a cost measure. I used to think carbon fiber was expensive. Then I worked with graphite golf shafts. That shit aint expensive at all. Lets add in to the fact that Mitsubishi is a major player in the game. Those relationships had to have paid off at least a little. May not be the case but I know Carbon Fiber is cheap so it would make sense.

Body Shape

This is almost a carbon copy of the original SIM. Not that it is necessarily a bad thing. That was a great driver and got rave reviews for its shape. I personally wasnt a huge fan but It was good. One thign I did notice is that despite having the same shape the carbon fiber that was used on the toe and heel side on the sole of the club. I would imagine with the carbon fiber being used on the face they need to increase the weight so they put the metal back on the sole. That would also make sense to make sure the driver did feel and sound “dead”

Final Thoughts

Despite Taylormade being awful in this situation the driver actually does look decent. It will be interesting to see if they nailed performance and feel. The carbon face will provide some challenges but after a while if it performs it will be fine
