We finally saw the newest Taylormade driver hit the USGA list. I posted some pictures a while ago but now we have some concrete proof that the SIM 2 is going to be a reality. Whenever we see pictures but dont have official details it’s time to WILDLY SPECULATE!

What we know
So far the USGA list has 2 driver heads on it. The Standard and the Max version. Noticeably missing is the Max-D (hehe) version. While the USGA has no approval for the D version the leaked image above indicates its coming. Since the USGA grants approval for a club ot be used in play I would assume no one on the TM staff is using it on tour so they dont need the approval yet. The other thing to notice is the lack of the adjustable weight. This may be the first time in a VERY long time Taylormade isnt offering a driver with a moveable weight. Im trying to think of a year that this happened and one isnt coming to me right away. Its a huge deal. The other very noticeable change is the amount of carbon fiber on the bottom. As I have said a bajillion times, every gram matters. Using the carbon fiber on the sole of the club frees up weight to spread to the edge or other places. The SIM pushed the Inertia Generator as the lead technology and with the carbon fiber on the bottom it could allow them to make that weight in the back even heavier to pull that MOI low and back.

The Differences
The standard model is pretty obviously going to be the better player low launch and low spin driver. The weight up front is surrounded by the words “High MOI Low Spin”. leading me to believe… its the low spin model. The Max model has its weight a little more in the heel. its also surrounded by the words High MOI so it will most likely launch higher than the standard
Final Thoughts
Here is where I wanted to make a few observations on the look of the clubs. Taylormade has made a very bold choice with the color blue they decided on. The yellow accents are also an interesting choice. I dont hate it but I think there are better looking clubs coming out this year. In pure looks Id give the edge to the PING G425 and the Srixon ZX series. Im sure though this will be one of the best performers out there. Taylormade always does perform well.
