A little bit ago you saw a post about some new irons and a new driving iron from Taylormade. I also posted about a possible new putter making the rounds. Well today Taylormade made all of these clubs official! Strap in because this may be a long one!

P770
I would make the argument that one of the most influencial clubs of the last 5-10 years is the P790. The P790 really started the trend of the hollow iron filled with foam (I know PXG did it first, we can discuss that later). They finally gave the better player a club that looked good enough to them but allowed them to get all those crazy ball speeds everyone was acheieving. The performance was top notch but if you asked any “good” player they wanted all that technology in a smaller package. Well Taylormade listened and gave the people what they actually wanted. The P770 has a lot of the same technology inside of it that the P790 has. We are looking at a hollow body iron with “speedfoam”. To be fair to Taylormade this wasnt as simple as shrinking a 790 down and calling it a day. Packing technology into a smaller package is never easy. Companies make it look simple but it just isnt. The coolest thing I saw on these was the fact that the “Inverted Cone Technology” that Taylormade has been using for at least 15 years has been adjusted out more towards the toe in the long irons because they noticed more misses happen out that way. Its shows the actual thought that went into these clubs. Now dont believe these are a replacement for the P790. They are not! They are for the person who wants a smaller package than the 790. If the thicc-ness of a 790 gives you some more confidence dont fear!

P7MB
As I said in the preview post its a MB. Not too much to talk about with a Blade iron. Not a ton of technology has changed but Taylormade is telling us some technology has been changed to make the club even better. What are these changes? Well first off they changed the shape of the muscle to make it look like a Nike Engage wedge awesome. They also adjusted the CG of the muscle to center the CG. Now the most important thing in an MB is the feel. Taylormade decided to tackle this head on and really get specific about the pressure they use to forge their heads. In the past it was at 1000 tons. For these Taylormade has upped the pressure to 2000 tons. This allows them to really push the limits of all of their tolerances. The added pressure also pushes air bubble out and gives it an even better feel. Frankly they could have previously used 20 tons of pressure and I would have no idea. Its cool they increased it but for all I know its a bunch of BS and makes no difference. The blade has also increased in length a little. Were talking millimeters not inches. It is hardly noticeable to me but some might notice.

P7MC
Do you remember the RAC TP Irons? Well to be honest they were one of the best Taylormade irons ever produced. They had an incredible look and an incredible feel. They dont have legal grooves any more but if it wernt for that and the fact they have to use the newest model I would bet some would still be in some PGA tour bags. The better players CB has always been a strong point for Taylormade. The last model they released was an incredible club and made its way all over tour. It was wildly successful so Taylormade needed to tread lightly when it comes to this release.
I would say it was a success. These are incredible looking. They have increased the forging pressure on these as well. The faces are milled to exact specifications. The biggest thing on these though is the looks. The lack of paintfill in the cavity. The small Taylormade logo in the cavity (Should have been a TP logo but I digress). If they perform like the P750 and look like these Taylormade has a real winner

Spider FCG
Taylormade has completely flipped the switch on the putter line. Instead of taking the COG all the way back to provide maximum MOI they have moved all of the weight forward in an attempt to maximize forgiveness. Now science says the club will rotate around the CG of the club when not struck in the center. That is essentially forgiveness. If you pull it further back it takes more force for the putter to rotate. Taylormade is basically saying if we add a shit ton of tungsten in the heel and the toe we can basically make this putter not move on a mishit. Its a great idea. It was a great idea when Cleveland did it this year with the Frontline putters and its a great idea when Taylormade somehow also invented it this year
I will say despite ripping off the Frontline, there is still something to be happy about on this putter. We have moved away from urethane inserts. I have never used a Taylormade putter because it felt like hitting one of those kids plastic sets. It was always so clicky. Now Taylormade has introduced the newest insert and it is… Copper. My absolute favorite looking material for a putter. It looks great in the putter and I hope it makes it way into other putters.
The final thing the putters have is some advanced alignment. By advanced I mean its a Odyssey Big T. It makes a giant T on top. At this point I cant believe LITERALLY everyone isnt suing Taylormade. How can your top tech be a rip off of another companies tech and your alignment aid be another companies stuff. Where is the originality. The red spider changed putters and instead of going next level with that they went and copied other peoples stuff. Its shameful. They should be embarassed.

TW Wedges
These look great but just like his irons they are made for a very specific person with very specific needs. You, me, just about anyone in the world not named Tiger woods shouldnt be playing these.

Final Thoughts
Overall it is going to be a good year for Taylormade. The irons are beautiful and seem to have great technology built into them. They took the feedback from better players and really addressed that in the 770’s They will probably be the best selling iron next year. Expect to see a lot of them in good player bags. The putter is down right shameful and the engineers working on the design should give their check back.
