Surprise of the Year? Tour Edge Exotics C722 Driver

In 2022 the drivers have all been pretty good for the most part. Callaway Rogue was great, The Cobra LTDx was good and the Stealth is selling like crazy. There is a company that has been making really good clubs for almost 2 decades. Their 3 woods are legendary but their drivers have always flown under the radar. I fully admit I over look this brands drivers as well. If you are racking your brand trying to figure it out the brand is Tour Edge.

I took a trip down to the DFW golf show and they had a little demo day section. All the majors were out there and a couple of smaller guys as well. The new C722 from Tour Edge had just been released and seeing as I am always looking to hit new golf clubs I decided to chat up the rep and take a couple of hacks with it. First swing the ball took off into the net and it felt incredible. I took a look down at the simulator and the numbers were perfect. Took a second swing. Launched again. I carried the second one 260. I couldnt believe what I. I hit about 5 more while talking to the rep and all 5 were dead nuts center of the club head. All were absolute missiles. Decided to step away before buying one right then and there but I knew I needed to get to a store to give it a swing against the Ping. About a week later I had it in hand along with the PING.

Looks

The shape of the club is a little generic. Thats not to say its bad it just doesnt look especially deep or aerodynamic. It looks…fine. On the sole it has a real Big Bertha Fusion look. Again, its fine. Generic but fine. I dont hate it but it doesnt blow me away like the Stealth or the LTDx. All of that doesnt matter what matters is the crown. From the top it isnt the best looking driver. The ridgeback tech puts a solid piece of metal through the middle and then on the sides it has carbon fiber. It can be distracting. Although that is ugly in my mind it pales in comparison to the awful 722 alignment aid. The worst part is the Tour Edge logo is an awesome looking logo. Stick the T or the Exotics E on the crown and call it a day. Who the hell wants 722 on the crown. As much as it doesnt matter its just not the best looking driver

Feel and Sound

As I have said a million times Sound=Feel. At the Golf show I thought it sounded really good BUT I was in a big market center. I also was swinging it perfectly and catchign everything out of the middle of the face where everything sounds and feels incredible. In a smaller more contained hitting bay I found the driver to be quite nice. On a mishit I could tell where on the face I hit it but it didnt feel bad. One of my big gripes with my PING is the sound. Its so loud and compared to the PING this thing sounded great. Again on mishits there was feedback but out of the middle the ball felt like it exploded.

Performance

This is where I was most excited. Like I said, its performance in the Market Center was eye-opening. In the hitting bay it was still really good. I admittedly was not swinging my best but I got to hit the Tour Edge head to head with my current club. In terms of ball speed I averaged about 1 MPH more with the Tour Edge vs the PING. Despite having only 1 MPH on average higher ball speed the average carry distance was about 5 yards longer. The Tour Edge was hitting the perfect launch conditions almost every time. It was great. It spun less than the PING by about 300 RPM and got it down around 1900. The performance was incredible and on par with anythign I have seen from anyone else in the industry.

Final Thoughts

The performance of this club is great. The looks leave A LOT to be desired but looks dont matter in the grand scheme of things. Its all about performance and this club straight up performs. At $430 the value is built in as well. Grab one of these, a cool headcover, and a dozen golf balls for the price of the Stealth and you could really upgrade your game.
