A few weeks ago Srixon announced the stunningly beautiful ZX line up of irons. We also saw these out on tour a couple of months ago. I wrote about them here. While those were leaked images we now have official word that they are coming to market!

Rebound Face

In my original post about the ZX7 I mentioned how it was pretty obvious that the Rebound Face was going to play a prominent role in what Srixon was going to promote. It clearly was its top technology and today confirms that. The big question now is what the heck is Rebound face? In the plainest terms the Rebound face is Srixon’s next weapon in an ever developing ball speed war between all the OEMs. Ball Speed is king for fitters and golfers alike. When I look at a club the most important thing I get from it is the ball speed. Ive been told by multiple fitters the highest ball speed wins and then we can adjust launch and spin with loft and shaft changes.

How does Srixon get those ball speed changes? They have created a trampoline like face. They have created 4 zones on the driver. The face is a flexible zone that flexs backward. It flexes until it hits the rigid zone behind it. The 3rd zone is behind that and flexes outward. When all of those zones snap back it creates a really powerful slingshot type movement.

New Crown

Srixon continues to use a carbon weave crown in this iteration of their drivers. They have modified it though. They have made it 15% larger. What does that mean? It means extra weight to use elsewhere on the driver. This lets them move the weight and increase MOI in other ways.

Adjustable weights

In my original article I was happy to see an adjustable weight was coming and I was even more excited because it looke dlike they were moving away from their awful wrench to the industry standard star torque wrench. It does look like that is moving forward in the retail release as well. Thank god!

Final Thoughts

I have always been a fan of the aesthetics of Srixon drivers. I love the red and black. The problem was I always hit others further. Hopefully the new Rebound face proves to be the real deal!
