Review: Maxfli Tour CG Golf Balls

Before I start too deep into this article I wanted to point out I was prepping this review long before it became the sleeper of all sleepers from MGS. They posted their first ball lab results on Sept 18 and my first insta post prepping for this was mid August. Im not just hopping on the bandwagon! Also if youd prefer a video review check it out here!

For most golfers when I say the name Maxfli they remember older clubs or they think of absolute garbage box sets that no one liked. The name has changed hands and has landed in the hands of Dicks Sporting Goods/Golf Galaxy. Over the last couple of years they have been releasing golf balls under the Maxfli name that have been pretty good. Their latest release is the Tour CG. Lets dive right in!

What’s to like?

When analyzing a golf ball people will always say to go from green to tee. I am not a believer in that.

I prefer to go: Greenside, Driver, Irons, and then Putter

Now I miss a lot of greens according to Arccos, so getting a ball that acts how I want to around the green is important. I also practice those shots alot. My favorite golf ball without budget being a consideration is the proV1. When doing greenside tests the ProV1 is the golf standard

With a wedge in my hands, I am pretty consistent. I can hit a nice flop, a low spinner, and a bump-n-run. I have high expectations and will rule a ball out immediately. The Q Star Tour Divide I reviewed performed well but after trying this golf ball I realized it was wasnt as consistent as this was. I literally couldnt tell the difference between the ProV1x and the Tour CG-X. I chipped in multiple times. There were multiple times I hit the ball a little too hard and thought it would blow past the hole only to see it check and trickle a few feet past. Its an absolute beast of a golf ball around the green.

Another aspect to think of is feel. While feel is personal these felt slightly softer than a ProV1 they were firmer than the Q Star tour. Its clicky in a good way but not hard feeling like an old school Rock Flite.

The driver also saw a great performance from the ball. Out on the course I hit it further than the other balls in this price range. On the simulator I saw a little more ball speed and a little less spin than other balls in this price range. That is the recipe for more distance.

On the irons, I dont expect the ball to spin back a lot. I want the ball to hit and check. I dont like seeing the ball far from my pitch mark. With a cheaper golf ball you will see the ball rolling far away from the ball mark. If it spins too much for my liking itll zip back. The Maxfli performed great. It would often times be found about a foot from the ball mark. An absolute joy off the irons. The feel was perfect. A little firm but not overly hard. It was perfect.

Finally we move to the green. I like a firm feel but again nothing too firm. This was perfect. I actually blacked out this and a proV and couldn’t tell the difference. I loved it.

Best value in the industry?

One of the biggest goals of this blog is to help you get awesome equipment for less money so you can play more golf! When I came across these golf balls at 2 for $60 I couldnt help but pick them up to see if these were worth picking up. While its getting easier to find good golf balls at this price range they sometimes have a small flaw. It may be too soft, spin too much off the driver, or doesnt spin enough greenside. At 35 bucks a dozen and as low as 2 for $60 it will not be beat. Its damn near Prov1 performance for 30% off. When we talk best value this has got to shoot straight to the top
