One of the big pursuits in the golf industry is the search for a duarable and soft grip. Winn has created an incredibly soft grip but they fall apart quickly especially in the humidity. Golf Pride released the CP2 series which felt very soft but they were made of a very durable rubber compound. Knowing this is something everyone looks for, Golf Pride has released the CPX, which they claim is the softest grip they have ever made.

The Looks
As much as we dont want to admit it the looks of a grip matter. If youre reading a golf equipment website you probably want the gear to look good. The gray and blue grip looks great in my opinion. The different textures are funky looking but I was asked multiple times what grip was on the club because it looked cool. Im in Cowboys country so obviously the gray and blue is going to get praises. The color scheme and texture wasnt offensive and it garnered some attention. Overall a solid looking grip

The Performance
With a soft grip the grip will sometimes feel like its moving in the hands. You can feel every movement of your hands and it feels like its slipping. The massive amounts of texture on the grip could also make seem like its moving during the swing. I didnt experience any of that with this grip. The grip was stable in the hands and as far as performance goes the grip was everything I would expect. It isnt an overly heavy or light grip either so it didnt mess with the weight of the club.
The other problem I face here in Texas is moisture management. Hands get sweaty and the humidity can affect grip as well. A grip that doesnt handle the moisture well can be a real problem. Looking at this grip I thought we could be facing a problem but all the texture on it made it handle the moisture like a champ!

The Feel
This is where the grip should stand out. I was expecting something SUPER soft. When I gripped the club the grip felt soft but not noticeably soft than anything else. It felt like a super textured CP2. In all honesty the CP2 feels softer to me. As I sit here writing this I went and grabbed it to make sure I’m not crazy. I’m not. Its slightly soft but nothing to write home about. I would call it a soft grip but not the softest. This isnt something thats going to replace a Winn.
Final Thoughts
I was expecting something much softer but in terms of its performance, the unique texture and feel, provide great traction and control. The grip is a great grip but I dont know if its what I was expecting. If you go into this expecting a Winn style grip youll be disappointed but as far as rubber grips go it feels soft.
