Continuing PING week on The Green Fee we bring you the G425 hybrid. Hybrids are admittedly not the sexiest club in the world but they are important. Most good players have at least one in the bag. They arent uncommon on the tour.

More Face Tech

The wrap around face technology that the fairway wood has, makes it way over to the Hybrid.

Consistent distance and consistent spin are critical with a hybrid. Most players will be using these to hit greens on long par 4 or par 5’s. With the wrap around face technology and the improved bulge and roll, PING is able to provide that consistent spin and distance.

Junk in the Trunk

It appears PING has increased the MOI by 5% on the new hybrid. They did this by making the weight on the back of the club a little heavier. Higher MOI gives the club even more forgiveness. With the consistent spin and ball speed of the new face combined with this increase of MOI we have a big time winner.

Final Thoughts

PING is great at giving their club performance increases while not sacrificing the looks of the club. Occasionally other manufacturers will release a dud or something that will take a leap backwards. PING never does. The G25 was better than the G20. The G30 was better than the G25 and so forth. This seems to be the pattern here. Not a ton of improvement but enough to pique your interest. It should also be noted the hybrid goes all the way down to a 7 iron. This will help every single slower swing player. The hybrid will help them get the air in the air and keep it there on a much more consistent basis

While this hybrid isnt revolutionary in either the looks or performance it is a step forward and it will be interesting to see how the market responds. PING has their fans and they are VERY loyal.
