One of my favorite days is new release day! Today we got new limited edition irons from Tour Edge. Tour Edge has some under the radar quality clubs. Lets take a look at some new irons
EXS Blade
If you like classic shapes then these will be the irons for you. Thin top line, thin sole, square head shape, and lots of chrome all lead to a nice classic look. Like most blade irons a lot of the changes come in the sole shape and the top line. THey have cambered the sole more to provide better turf interaction. The biggest selling point on these irons is the use of CNC Milling. Using CNC milling provides very precise specs as well as a much more consistent product. I wish I could add some thoughts or anything like that to the story but honestly its another blade iron. It doesnt look like it is radically different than any others.
EXS Pro Forged
Here is where we get into some technology and honestly some controversy. A lot of companies are figuring out that better players like a small profile but they still want all the distance!
Now to get maximium distance companies use a couple of “tricks” The first is making lofts stronger.Thats a whole article I dont plan on getting into right now. The second is to use “slots”. This give the face the ability the rebound and create faster ball speeds. . Another way is the make the face as thin as possible. This is the route Tour Edge took. The use of CNC Milling to get the thinnest possible face is really innovative and something that could provide a large amount of distance.
One thing I will give Tour Edge credit on is their use of Tungsten. They have been using it for years and these irons are no different. The long irons place tungsten out on the toe to provide as much forgiveness as possible. Hosels are heavy and without a lot of extra weight on the toe the sweet spot will be too close to the heel.
The Controversy
Its a fucking Callaway Apex rip off. Right? I cant be the only one right? Thats a Callaway Apex.
