The phrase “Nothing Feels like a Mizuno” is often said when describing their irons. The lines and the shapes of Mizuno never ceases to amaze me. The JPX 919 Hot Metal Pro is one of my favorite irons ever. It felt great and performed beautifully. Thats why when the Mizuno teaser came out on social media last week promoting the new 921 series, I was beyond excited.

Chromoly

Lets start by talking chromoly and why you should give a damn about it. Chromoly is a metal that is stronger than Carbon Steel while maintaining that Mizuno feel. It is actually the steel that is preferred by BMX riders. I know that doesnt sound like much but it can take a beating and keep on performing. Since it is so strong it allows Mizuno to make the face as thin as possible while maintaining the strength. On previous iterations of the JPX line they used Chromoly where they would see the most benefits. On the face it increased ball speed and on the hosel it made bending irons to the correct lie angle much easier. It appears on this model we are getting a full chromoly forged club. Hopefully Mizuno can keep the feel in this new iron.

The Line Up

The video released from Mizuno shows a 3 club Line of of the Hot Metal, The Pro, and the Forged. I havent seen many more pictures of the clubs out there but so far Im leaning towards the Forged. If they have a Hot Metal Pro I will gladly try that one. Based on the teasers this model is going to be all about ball speed. They are really using the smoke graphic quite a bit on all of these teasers. That makes me think the clubs are “hot” or the ball was “smoked”.

Final Thoughts

Overall how could someone not be excited about these clubs? Mizuno makes some of the best irons out there and these probably wont be any different. It will be interesting to see what other info comes out on these. I cant wait to get them in stores and give them a few swings!
