New irons are dropping everywhere!

Its been a fun couple of weeks in the golf equipment world. We have new irons coming out from Taylormade and Bridgestone. None of these have been labeled official and are all “prototypes” but this far into development gives a good idea they are actually happening.

Taylormade

This week saw a new set of irons in the bag for Staff member Rory McIlroy. Taylormade looks to be replacing their blade irons. The P7.MB is replacing the P.730. If I am being honest its tough to find a lot of differences in blade irons. The biggest difference I am seeing is the design of the muscle. It appears the muscle is contoured to every iron. The toe on the irons are shaped differently. It could be to move weight and help that club face close.

The next thing is something that will get much more attention among the masses. Pictures have begun to leak out showing a replacement for the P760. The P760 is the companies players cavity. It has a top thin line but also has the forgiveness of a CB iron. The P760 is heading out of the door and will be replaced by the P7.MC. While I dont have any information on the irons I can point out some of the differences in the design and what it could mean! The first thing I noticed is the placement of mass lower on the club. This allows mass to be concentrated on the center of the face and will increase ball speed as well as feel. They took it from a flat design to almost a Srixon like design. The also cleaned up the badging by removing the full Taylormade name and replacing it with their T logo. Overall a great visual upgrade and hopefully the changes of the metal placement makes a difference

The final leak coming from Taylormade is a new driving iron and hybrid. The Gapr was their latest hybrid and driving iron but it didnt really catch on like they had probably hoped. The UDI has always been the name for Taylormade’s driving irons. They decided to brand this as a SIM UDI which may also lead us to believe that the SIM name may be staying throughout next year. Wouldnt make much sense to release something under the SIM name only to change it 5 months later. The biggest eye opener is the name of the other Hybrid. They decided to bring back the old Adams Dhy name. The Dhy was one of the most popular hybrids of all time. Like the old Dhy their appears to be a weight on the bottom of the club. If Taylormade is able to to produce the same results as Adams was then we should be beyond excited.

Bridgestone

We dont have a lot of information on the new irons from Bridgestone outside of a leaked photo from Weston Maughan. The new Bridgestone 200MB looks great but like I said with Taylormade it is a new blade and at this point blades are just a refinement at this point. The biggest change has been in the aestehtic. They have added the Bridgestone B in the corner and are using my favorite color scheme. Red White and black always look good together. It looks like a classic blade and should look great in anyones bag.
