A few weeks ago I was perusing my local Goodwill and came across a blue shafted iron that felt super whippy. I recognized the name LagShot. Now I am not somebody who buys into gimmicks. I dont buy infomercial clubs unless its The Hammer. I also dont buy many training aids. They feel very one swing fits everyone and I dont really believe in that philosophy. That being said at Goodwill for 3 bucks I decided it was worth the risk!

What is it
Simply put it is a very flexible golf club. It is visually striking with its BRIGHT blue shaft and dark black club head. LagShot is designed to help golfers have a tour like tempo and create lag which leads to straighter and more powerful shots. A really unique feature that this training aid features is the abiuility to hit golf balls with it. It is standard length loft and lie so you get the instant feedback of seeing ball flight. The biggest competitor is probably the Orange Whip. While the Orange Whip does the same thing in regards to tempo, you cant really hit a ball with it.

Initial Swings
My first trip to the range with the LagShot was… a complete failure. Shanks all over the place. I couldnt keep it in the area code of the range I was on. It was truly a confidence killer. I decided 5 swings was enough for that session and save it for another. On the second session I decided to really focus on slowing down my tempo and hitting solid shots with the LagShot. I got a couple of ok shots in and decided that was some pretty good progress. The third session was where I really started to make some progress. I started figuring out what a good shot with the club looked like. With the Lagshot the ball would launch higher and cut but would feel solid.

Overall Thoughts
Like I said earlier I dont buy into these things very often but it actually helped me. The club is in my bag as a warm up tool for range sessions. I have used it on the range before a round to make sure everything is good to go. If I can take it on the range, hit a couple of good shots I know I could play well that day. To determine how well I shoot on a given day I set a little personal par of 85. Anything above 85 is a bad day. 90+ is an awful day. Below 85 is a good day and sneaking in the 70’s is an incredible day.
Since picking up the LagShot the scores have been 82,82,83,88,81,86,83. The consistency is getting better. The handicap has stayed right around the 7.5-8. I can feel my irons getting better. Im not going to sit here and tell you I have picked up 15 yards and my scores have dropped by 10 strokes. Thats not what its about though. For me the consistency is what I wanted and the LagShot…actually helped. Is it worth $120 bucks? Im a gear guy not a training aid guy so…no Id rather have a new club but it is pretty damn good
