One of the knock I said against Cobra in last weeks podcast was the fact they didnt have a good enough wedge. It didnt look good to my eye and it just didnt move the needle for me. Well it seems they were WAY ahead of me and released a brand new wedge. Could the King Cobra be the wedge they need to round out their lineup?

Snake Bite Grooves
I get what they are going for here with the name. They bite and with the name King Cobra its hard not to instantly jump to Snake Bite Grooves. For me though the first thing I think of is this. Name aside lets talk the actual grooves. My new favorite feature is on the actual length of the grooves. On the lower lofts (48-54*) the grooves extend to the normal length. On the higher lofts (56-60) the grooves actually stretch across the entire face. Its not just the length of the grooves thats changing either. the new grooves are 11% deeper and 40% sharper. What does this mean. It means more spin. This could give you more control around the greens. Want to hit that high flop that one hops and then just hits the brakes? Sharper grooves is certainly one of the things that make that shot possible. The new grooves are also optimized for loft. The lower lofts have narrower and tighter grooves. That will help make sure the ball doesnt balloon on full shots. The higher lofts have wider deeper grooves to give you maximum greenside control on chips and other small swings.

The Grinds
Cobra has decided to release the club with 3 grinds:
- Versatile grind: an excellent all-around grind for medium to firm course conditions, featuring toe, heel and trailing edge relief.
- Classic grind: features a progressive sole width from heel-to-toe, with trailing edge relief, benefiting neutral to steeper swings and a variety of course conditions.
- Widelow grind: a wide, low bounce sole works its magic out of soft bunkers, soft turf conditions and prevents the leading edge from
While its not the plethora of options presented by Vokey and others it is still more than Cobra tends to do. It looks like a good assorment and one that should cover just about every golfer that isnt on tour.

Final Thoughts
Its really good to see Cobra introduce some new wedges. Like I said in the podcast last week it was really the biggest thing holding them back in their brand identity. The club looks good now lets hope it performs
