While I have been a big fan of Cobra drivers their other woods have left something to be desired in my opinion. The biggest gripe I have had is the rails. They dont work for my swing. Distance and feel wise they have been on par with everyone else. They have consistently released solid woods for the last few years so how do they make it bette rin 2022?
PWR COR
Like the driver PWR COR is coming to the fairway woods. What is PWR COR? Its a brand new weighting system that Cobra is brining to all their woods. Its combining internal and external weights to get weight as low and forward as possible. This should create high launch low spin conditions that will maximize distance on all of the shots. If you are looking for maximum distance with your fairway woods these will probably be a great play for these reasons. I honestly expect these to be the top fairway wood for distance. Ball speed should be high and with the weight that far forward I could see CRAZY distances.
H.O.T. Face
Once again the tech that is in the driver makes its way down to the fairway woods (looking at you Taylormade). Cobra has used what they called E9 for years. This was the 9 zones of the club face they had found needed to be shaped differently to retain maximum forgiveness and ball speed. They have expanded this to 15 zones and have used computer analysis to figure out the perfect shape for the face. Cobra claims it looks a lot like a topological map which is where they came up with the name. I mean…ok. I like the tech but the name and story is kinda lost. Not something that I think will resonate
Rails?
Luckilly this year we are not getting rails on the 3 wood. Like I said earlier, I hate the rails. They didnt work for me and ever since they brought them back I have been way out on the Cobra fairways. To see them gone is a great move in my opinion. They work on steeper swings and with a 3 wood a shot that is too steep is a disaster with or without rails.

LTDx LS- This is going to be a the better players fairway. With the amount of weight forward its going to require a massive amount of speed to keep the spin at a reasonable weight. The biggest concerning aspect of this club is the moveable weights. The weights are on the far heel and toe side. This could lead to a hook or a slice. Cobra is saying it can be used to fine tune the flight but its a good amount of weight to be moving around and its a big distance to move it.
LTD MAX- Just like in the driver this is going to be the most forgiving and stable club in the lineup. You will spin this more and you can position the weight in this one to a low back position or in the heel for a draw bias.
LTDx- This is the one to fit most golfers. It has a fixed weight in the back to pull the weight back and provide that higher launch but the PWR COR pulls weight forward to increase those ball speeds. This should be a perfect blend between forgiveness and distance.
Final Thoughts
This year feels different for Cobra. It feels like a big shift in their theory. Their top staff member, Bryson, is craving distance and this lineup feels like Cobra going for distance with forgiveness be damned. This could be a big issue but if it works it will be a huge year for them
