Cobra LTDx Driver Thoughts

I am working my way through the 2022 driver releases. I did a story on Callaway and Taylormade over the last few weeks. This weeks release is super important for Cobra. I had Cobra down as my company of the year. Cobra has one of the most intriguing and needle moving players on the Tour on staff. If they can give him a product that will take his game to the next level the sky is the limit. Can this driver do it? Lets see!

Looks

Cobra has always been willing to take a chance with the looks of their drivers. In fact one of my favorite features since they introduced it was the milled face. I have always thought it was beautiful. It was also pretty cool that it, for some reason, showed impact better than other drivers. From address the club looked good but it didnt do anything game changing. I cant say I was overly impressed or not. It was…fine. The carbon fiber on the crown was cool. Taylormade made a DEEP face. Callaway had the nice matte finish. This didnt move the needle either way at address. That being said it didnt do anything I hated so its hard to knock it. Classic driver looks.

Feel/Sound

This is where Cobra has always been top notch for me. I LOVE Cobra sound and feel. My F8+ will never be topped especially after I added a small amount of hot melt. I know that this section doesnt really matter and what I like may not be what you like. I say all of that to tell you that this club sounds great. It was a loud smack. The ball sounded like it exploded off the face. In addition it felt like the ball exploded off the face as well. Some may view this as a negative but when I missed I could really feel where on the face it was. There is something reassuring about feeling a high toe shot and then seeing it on the face.

Performance

At the end of the day this is what matters. Cobra needs this one to perform. Unfortunatley it performed as well as my PING but not substantially better. I personally saw better performance from the other 2. I dont want to say it was bad. It wasnt. It was good. It just wasnt as good as those guys.

Where the driver did perform though was in its forgiveness. I was able to sustain the same ball speed almost across the face. The drop off in ball speed was minimal when I missed. The highest of ball speeds couldnt touch Taylormade and Callaway but the lowest was higher than those guys.

Final Thoughts

If you ar elooking for maximum distance this may not be the club for you. The ball speed will be higher from the other guys but if you want to hit it around the same distance everytime and not get punished as badly on a mishit then this will be the one for you. With 3 different heads they will offer one that you can fine tune and fit your swing. Its a good driver but I dont know if it is the driver to bring Cobra to the top.
