A few months ago we got a whole new players iron line up from Callaway. Yesterday we got even more irons from Callaway. Callaways top iron line up is the Apex. It is a perfect low to mid handicap iron lineup. With a new release lets see what we are getting from this release.

Standard Apex
The 2019 Apex lineup was considered damn near perfect by a lot of people. When you really nail it like Callaway did the next release is probably going to be some small refining. The press materials from Callaway really talk about the optimization of these clubs. Like all of their products Callaway is leaning into A.I. to help optimize the faces of the club. Callaway has also added 5x the Tungsten to the club. This allows them to put more weight in areas that will ultimately improve forgiveness. In the longer irons it is placed low and across the face. In the shorter irons it is placed in the middle of the club and a little higher. This helps optimize the launch conditions. Combine this with the optimized face it should be a great recipe for performance. The profile is compact but still inspires confidence.

Apex Pro
The Apex pro gets tour play so I was truly expecting a refinement of the set but Callaway flipped it on us and said “NOPE! WERE GOING HOLLOW BODY BITCHES!”. Callaway is giving the better player some real technology which if were being honest is a big gamble when it comes to irons. Better players want consistency not necessarily more distance. With the use of AI, Callaway is really giving better players the best of both worlds. To help with that forgiveness Callaway is pumping a bunch of Tungsten in the irons up to the 8 iron. After the 8 iron the better player begins flighting their iron shots and dont necessarily want the “forgiveness”. They also prefer a solid feel and maybe the traditional steel gives the feeling the better player is used to.

Apex DCB
Im not going to make this complicated. The DCB has all the same technology as the APEX. All they did was put it in an even larger chassis. It will have more offset, a larger sole, and a larger top line. Overall just a larger Apex. If you find yourself struggling to get the ball to draw it may be the choice for you!

Final Thoughts
A very impressive lineup from Callaway. The Apex Pro is used quite a bit on tour so with a radical change like this it will be interesting to see where their tour staff goes. It seems like the new X Forged could get more play on tour. I know I dont normally talk PGA tour but it plays a large role for companies. I do think we are going to see a ton of the Apex in everyday golfers bags this year.
